Why Skills for Kids?
Significant anecdotal and empirical evidence shows that if encouraged at an early age, a targeted curriculum, pedagogy and faculty can catalyze the development of an entrepreneurial mindset among young adults. Activities that focus on life skills and financial skills enable children to be more productive in the classroom, more self-sufficient and more inclined to contribute to their community’s social and economic development. Some facets of formal education lack relevance and do not equip children with practical skills that they can apply to real life situations. There is, therefore, the necessity for programs that supplement formal education and provide children with the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and life skills. Though these concepts are not alien to the developed world, there is scarce (but growing) evidence of the successful implementation of such programs in developing countries.

The Methodology
The Skills for Kids curriculum consists of approximately 20 hours of instruction material covering 8 modules that include:

Opportunity Recognition
Market Analysis
Healthy Eating

The objective of these learning-by-doing activities is to enable an experiential learning framework and to allow children to experience, reflect and apply knowledge learned and also hone traditional skills in mathematics, reading and writing.

Who can use Skills for Kids?
Skills for Kids targets children between the ages of twelve and fourteen but can be customized for younger or older children.

It can be implemented as a workshop or broken down into individual modules and used over a semester or term as part of a class. In Mongolia and India, countries where Skills for Kids was piloted, the curriculum was implemented as an after school workshop over a period of three days.
